The Woods started the game brightly and were on top for the first 15 minutes; James Fraser having a long range effort that went wide, and Spencer Bellotti got close to a couple of knock-downs from Oliver Hawkins.

Then Enfield started to come into the game but never really tested James Reading until about 25 minutes in, when the Mo Hahn disposed Ryan Phillips’ attempted clearance and should really have opened the scoring. He was clear through into the box, but keeper Reading stood up well, and made the save with his legs.

Oliver Hawkins then had to be replaced by Garry Senior after a half-hour due to a needless tackle from behind home number 6 Phillipson. After a succession of corners and free kicks, Enfield finally took the lead on 36 minutes. A short free-kick was taken about 30 yards out and Mo Hahn proceeded to bend his shot into the top right hand corner, giving Reading no chance.

Northwood finished the half with a couple of good strikes on goal from Dean Worman and Garry Senior, but Enfield keeper Alexander did well to hold both of them on the wet surface, which caused by a five-minute deluge of rain just before the break.

The second half was much better from Northwood, who dominated most of the play without creating too much until on 65 minutes some quick thinking by Garry Senior saw him lob the Enfield keeper from 35 yards after a half clearance came to him.

The second goal soon followed on 70 minutes. A corner delivered by Kyle Matthews was headed out to the edge of the box, where Dean Worman volleyed into the bottom far corner through the crowd.

Enfield had a couple of half chances but Garry Malone was up to the task and kept them at bay. The last 15 minutes was mainly spent in Enfield’s half, and Northwood could have added to their tally, through Romaine Walker on a couple of occasions and Kyle Matthews.
